This recipe will make your whole house smell wonderful!
Apple butter just has all the flavors of fall that I love. If you think it takes a long time to make a delicious apple butter from scratch you would be mistaken. If you give this recipe a try you can have apple butter in as little as 2 hours.
All it takes is a couple hours, and by the time you are done you will be ready for all the other fall time flavors!
Yield: approx. 16oz
Time: 2 hours
Ingredients:
3 pounds sweet apples
1/2 cup maple syrup
1 Tablespoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
2 Tablespoons lemon juice
Instructions:
Peel, core and dice apples.
Combine diced apples, maple syrup, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and lemon juice in a large pot. Stir to combine.
Cover and cook on medium heat for 30 minutes stirring occasionally.
Using a blender or emersion blender purée apple mixture until smooth.
Reduce heat to low and simmer for 1 hour or until caramelized, stir every 5 minutes.
Once the hour has passed cool completely and store in refrigerator.
Notes: Any variety of apples will work but varieties such as gala will yield a sweeter result.
Notes: This recipe could be easily scaled up and canned.
